Maybe Twice in a Lifetime

USA & Europe

a novel by Kyara Russo

The paintings in the novel

I gave up my career as an environmental scientist a few years ago to follow my dream: write and live a slower-paced life while studying astronomy. Born in Oklahoma (USA), I have lived most of my life in London.

I now live in Milan (Italy) and “summer out” in Chicago.

I took screenwriting and creative writing courses at NYU (USA) and in Milan (Italy).

In November 2002, I was awarded the Inner Wheel Roma prize: Women who write for the theatre. It was my first play, The five fingers (originally in Italian: Le cinque dita). The Committee included: Rita Levi di Montalcini, Dacia Maraini, Maurizio Scaparro and Ottavia Piccolo.

Maybe twice in a lifetime
started as two short stories: one about an encounter and another on a miscarriage. They were sent out to twelve friends spread out between Europe and the States. Through their longing to know more about the main characters’ lives, it turned into this novel, which they read in five installments, and were held in suspense right up to the last page.

Maybe twice in a lifetime
blends together my passion for sailing with painting and astronomy.

This is where I was when
I wrote it. It was a
cool summer in Chicago.
Where am I?

I probably popped out to go sail with my friends on Allegro!
